Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service

Mission/Vision 

The VHA mission of Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service is to provide comprehensive support to optimize health and independence of the Veteran. Our vision is to be the premier source of prosthetic and orthotic services, sensory aids, medical equipment and support services for Veterans.

Scope of Service 

The Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service provides a wide variety of care to eligible outpatients/residents with varying degrees and types of disabilities, backgrounds, ages, and cultures. The Prosthetics staff adheres to an interdisciplinary approach by working closely with physicians, nurses, rehab specialists, respiratory therapists, social workers, vendors, and others to achieve a team effort in the total care of the Veteran. The Service participates and administers the HISA Program and the Major Medical Equipment Committee to ensure the most appropriate item is issued and to ensure cost effectiveness. 

The Prosthetics Service is also responsible for the Automobile Adaptive Equipment and Clothing Allowance Programs. Items/services provided are durable medical equipment to include, but are not limited to, prosthetics, orthotics, orthopedic foot wear, Telehealth, TENS unit, ostomy supplies, visually impaired blood glucose monitors, wheelchairs, and patient lifts.
