Recreation Therapy
Mission/Vision
In support of the facility mission of treating the whole person the Recreation Therapy Service provides a wide variety of recreation programming for the people served. Recreation therapy services are intended to have a positive impact on all persons served and help ameliorate identified physical, psychological and emotional problems.
Service
The recreation therapy service provides support to the Community Integration Program, Mindful Action Group (Adventure Based Counseling/Ropes Course , and the Substance Abuse Treatment Program. In addition Recreation Therapy Service is responsible for the programming and operation of various recreation facilities throughout the VA SORCC.
The Recreation Therapy Service also supervises, trains, and counsels up to thirty Incentive Therapy workers, and is the largest user of volunteers at the VA SORCC with approximately eighty volunteers at any given time assisting with recreation programming.
The function of Recreation Therapy Service is to provide recreation opportunities for persons served on three levels:
- Level One – Therapeutic Recreation
- Level Two – Leisure Education
- Level Three – Self directed leisure participation
